THE NEW STILL LIFE

"Still Life" art seems to always be a very interesting subject for artists independently of century, art group, country, etc... I would like to understand why, is it only for observation? or is something more? Maybe they all felt hypnotized by it...

Arcimboldo

 Salvador Dalì

 Juan Sánchez Cotán

 Phillippe de Champaigne

Still Life = Natura Morta = "Dead Nature" (different isn't it?)

But what I noticed is that people are still interested in picturing Still Life, but trying to improve the way it is portrayed, now with photography people are trying to rearrange Still Life in an almost rational, pragmatical way, separating every thing in the frame.

Great ideas, great works, but I must say that I have a Still Life Favorite...

MARILYN MINTER

This week is all about MAKE-UP, here is a great artist called Marilyn Minter, her photos are amazing, she loves bright colors, plays with sexuality and erotic images and curiously does not digitally manipulate her photographs. Her style is clearly represented in her book involving a heavy gloss, multi-colored paper making, it feels almost wet.
I got to know her because of the photos she did for M.A.C., super close-ups, with a lot of texture and lots of SHINE. But what I love the most are the "Green Pink Caviar" videos - super sexy and makes me think about all kinds of works that models do. Really crazy stuff, but amazing anyway. Check it out..

"I was shooting stills of models with long tongues swirling and sucking bakery products from under a pane of glass. I wanted to make enamel paintings along the idea of painting with my tongue..." - Marilyn Minter

Ps: The "Green Pink Caviar" video were used as the video backdrop for the opening song in Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour.

HALLOWEEN KINKY ART

What all the saints would say about this kinky/scary dessert?  They would probably be horrified!!
It's world's first 18+ cake shop, in Shoreditch High St. - London, called The Evil Cake shop. Brought to you by The Mad Artists Tea Party & PRETOX Drink Alibi. These truly are for adult eyes only, certified ’18 in accordance with the same criteria of the film classification board. Artist George Morton-Clark brought his suffocated porn series of art works to life in cupcake form. Art, fun, scary.  Enjoy...

Been here in London for almost a month I still didn't have time to go to the main places, Big Ben etc... but luckily I could see a little bit of East London and I love it already. Trying to rent a room there so if someone knows, please tell me.
But little by little I will find the magic in London, here are a few pictures:
